Hudson is looking for brand-new senior high school principal – Information – Metr …

Hudson school leaders are searching for a new high school principal and launched a survey to get community feedback on what qualities the next principal should possess.

HUDSON – District leaders this week launched an online survey to gather more community input on the desired qualities of the next high school principal.

The survey – which is posted on the district’s website – asks residents how important various leadership skills and abilities, including success in maintaining high academic performance, experience with educational technology and experience in curriculum development, are for the new high school leader. Survey respondents will also be asked about graduation rates, student attendance, advanced coursework, school safety and extracurricular activities.

The survey will close at 4 p.m. Friday. It can be found at www.hudson.k12.ma.us.

Superintendent Marco Rodrigues and other school officials held listening sessions with community members, high school staff and students earlier this month to get input. Rodrigues said the information gathered during the listening sessions and the survey will help during interview panels and is valuable to the new leader in building on the assets of the school and providing attention to areas of need.

The district is searching for a new high school leader after former Principal Brian Reagan left Hudson in June to become assistant superintendent of curriculum and staff development for Wilmington Public Schools. Rodrigues opted to hire an interim principal before conducting a search for a permanent leader due to the timing of Reagan’s departure.

Rodrigues hired veteran school administrator Jonathan Bourn as interim principal this summer. Bourn, Norwood High School’s principal the past three years before resigning in the spring to pursue other opportunities, was chosen for the job over 26 other candidates. He was previously an assistant principal at Abington High School from 2006 to 2010 and at Needham High School from 2010 to 2015.

The Hudson job will be posted in early January. A screening committee – made up of high school officials, parents, teachers, students, a community representative, district administrators and a School Committee member – will interview semifinalists in late February before selecting three finalists. Anyone interested in serving on the screening committee is encouraged to notify the district on the survey. Participants will be chosen in mid-January.

Finalists will interview with Rodrigues and other district administrators in early March. The superintendent anticipates selecting a new high school principal during the week of March 11, according to a timeline posted on the district’s website.

Reagan was Hudson High School’s principal for seven years. Prior to that, he was principal at Shrewsbury High School and an assistant principal and director of bands at Bedford High School.
